GFGC Transition

History

During 2018-19, the Faculty Senate voted to support the establishment of an independent graduate faculty governance organization to be consistent with the other colleges in the university, better serve the growing needs of the Graduate School and WWU graduate students, and facilitate the ability of graduate faculty to help shape the mission and goals of the college.

Following a 30-day comment period, the current Graduate Council voted to send the following amended document to all members of the Graduate Faculty for the purpose of ratification. The Constitution and by-laws were approved by a majority vote on February 4, 2020.

Graduate Faculty Governance Council Transition Process

Documents below were sent to graduate faculty during Fall 2019.

Comments were open for 30 days. During this time, GFGC transition team members visited governance council and Dean's Advisory Council meetings of each college to briefly summarize the new structure and address questions.

After the 30 day comment period, the transition team reviewed comments and made any necessary modifications to the bylaws. The Graduate Council voted to approve the bylaws before sending them out for a full vote of all eligible graduate faculty.
